How to choose a centrifuge?
There are many models and types of centrifuges, and the price is relatively expensive. When choosing and purchasing, it should be measured according to the work. Generally, the following factors should be considered:
(1) The purpose of centrifugation, whether to analyze centrifugation or preparative centrifugation;
(2) The type and quantity of the sample, whether it is a cell, a virus, or a protein, and the size of the sample amount. Based on these factors, decide whether to buy an analytical centrifuge or a preparation centrifuge; whether it is a low-speed, high-speed or over-speed; whether it is a large-capacity, constant-volume or micro-centrifuge.
(3) Economic ability: When the model is determined, the manufacturer and price should be considered. The price and the performance of the product are synchronized.
(4) Other details: such as whether the centrifugal operation is easy, whether maintenance is convenient, whether the design is outdated, whether the supply of wearing parts is convenient, etc.
(5) Supporting problems: It is impossible for a centrifuge to operate at low speed, high speed and overspeed conditions at the same time. Generally speaking, ultra-speed centrifuges are only limited to ultra-speed centrifugation, not suitable for high-speed centrifugation, and less suitable for low-speed centrifugation. Similarly, high-speed centrifuges are not suitable for low-speed centrifugation. Therefore, when buying an ultracentrifuge, you should consider equipped with a high-speed centrifuge, otherwise you will not be able to give full play to your advantages. Generally speaking, the frequency of low-speed and high-speed use is relatively high, while the utilization rate of ultracentrifuge is relatively low. Ultracentrifuge is only purchased in laboratories that are frequently used or regional public settings are considered.

After the centrifuge model is determined, what kind of centrifugal rotor to choose. The most important basis for consideration is the capacity of the sample and the conditions of centrifugation. There are usually one horizontal rotor and one angular rotor, or one rotor with large capacity (relatively low speed) and one rotor with small capacity and high speed to meet the different needs of the work. Do not pursue the better. Because there are many types of centrifugal rotors, many of them are similar, and the price of the rotors of the ultra-speed machines is quite expensive. If all the rotors are equipped, the price is several times higher than that of the main centrifuge, which is not necessary. The price varies greatly due to the different speed of the rotor. In terms of speed, it is not advisable to pursue the higher the better, but there should be a rotor with the highest speed allowed by the centrifuge, otherwise it will be a waste for the centrifuge. Units with two centrifuges can consider complementary rotor models to save money.
The management of centrifuges, judging from the use of centrifuges in China for many years, various types of centrifuges should be managed and maintained by dedicated personnel. High-speed and ultra-speed centrifuges require regular inspection and maintenance. Users should record the experimental status and maintenance in detail to ensure the safe use of the centrifuge. High-speed and low-speed centrifuges are easy to operate, so they can be used by themselves after reading the instructions and training the centrifuge operating procedures. The ultracentrifuge is complicated in structure and cumbersome in working procedures. It is prone to accidents due to improper use. In particular, the centrifugal rotor should be carefully maintained and used. Judging from the situation of domestic use and management for many years, the safekeeping and operation of the instrument is the guarantee of the good condition of the instrument. The management and operating personnel should be trained so that they are not only familiar with the operation, but also have an understanding of the instrument.
