How many ultrasound examinations are required during pregnancy?

According to the 12 prenatal examinations commonly used in most hospitals, 5 ultrasound examinations are required under normal circumstances. In case of special circumstances, such as fetal growth restriction, fetal malformation, abnormal placenta, excessive or oligohydramnios, etc., the doctor will add additional information based on the actual situation.

1.6~7 weeks of early pregnancy check: mainly confirm the gestational age, determine whether you are pregnant with single, twin (confirm choriocarcinoma) or multiple births, check whether there are abnormal pregnancy, whether there are ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, fetal abortion, etc.

2.11~14 weeks NT check: mainly check NT (detect the thickness of the transparent layer of the fetal neck). NT is the earliest screening method to check whether the fetus has chromosomal abnormalities. If the NT indicators are abnormal, the necessary prenatal diagnosis should be performed in time.

3.20~24 weeks of systemic ultrasound examination: mainly for the fetal abnormality examination, commonly known as "large discharge" At this time, most fetal malformations can be detected, such as defects in limbs, internal organs, and face.

Examination at about 4.32 weeks: Mainly to supplement the abnormalities and monitor the growth and development of the fetus, check whether the fetus has growth restriction, amniotic fluid and abnormal umbilical cord.

About 5.37 weeks of inspection: mainly to check the maturity of the placenta and the growth and development of the fetus, estimate the weight of the fetus, evaluate the delivery method, and do not involve the structure of the fetus. If the ultrasound prompts the umbilical cord to wrap around the neck, do not strain, pay attention to the fetal movement. Most of the umbilical cord around the neck will not cause harm to the fetus, but you should seek medical attention early after contractions.

Small reminder: When doing a B-ultrasound examination in the first 3 months of pregnancy, because the fetus is small, it is still necessary to hold back urine before the examination. But after 3 months, B-ultrasound not only does not need to hold the urine when checking the fetus, it is best to empty the urine before the examination.
