International Nurses Day
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on 12 May each year to appreciate the contributions of nurses towards people's health. The day is held coinciding with the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.

1. The Date of May 12 was chosen coinciding with the birthday anniversary of Florence Nightingale, who is considered to be the founder of modern nursing.
2. There is something really interesting about Florence Nightingale's name. She was born in Florence—hence the name. Similarly her sister, Frances Parthenope Nightingale, was born in 'Pathenopolis', a region of Naples.
3. Originally, the word 'Nurse' would mean wet nurse, and were employed to breastfeed aristocratic babies. 'Nurse'

5. In the US military, approximately one-third of all nurses are male.
